US website posts article “UAE Author Completes Authorized Biography on Azerbaijan President”
US website "Prweb.com" has issued an article titled "UAE Author
Completes Authorized Biography on Azerbaijan President", AzerTac
state news agency reported.
The author of the book is Graeme Wilson, a 42-year-old British
author and documentarian based in London and Dubai.
The article reads: "In October 2003, Ilham Aliyev became President
of Azerbaijan. After a career as a scholar, historian, businessman
and oil executive, his sudden rise to political power caught many
by surprise. After a decade and a half producing titles on the
United Arab Emirates and its statesmen, Dubai-based author Graeme
Wilson releases his new authorized biography on the leader hailing
from the former Soviet Union, "Ilham: Portrait of a President"
(published by AuthorHouse). The 42-year-old author - who has lived
in Dubai for 20 years - has previously written titles on the late
Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed
Al Maktoum and the late Sheikh Saqr bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, along
with 25 other books. Eight years after Aliyev became President,
Azerbaijan is on the crest of an economic wave despite the global
recession. The newly independent nation is building a robust
society, democracy has taken root, poverty rates have dropped
dramatically and Azerbaijan is winning international plaudits for
transparency and good governance."
The article quotes author Wilson as saying: "The U.A.E. is my home,
and when you have had the opportunity to study the lives of men
like Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Rashid, it can be difficult to become
motivated about narratives and stories that are not as
extraordinary as those of our own leaders," he said. "We have
looked abroad for interesting subjects, producing biographies on
the Presidents of Sri Lanka and the Maldives for example. The
President of Azerbaijan is a fine example, a brilliant story that
makes a superb subject."
A fellow of the Royal Geographical Society, Wilson has written 25+ books, including the biographies of the heads of state of Azerbaijan, United Arab Emirates, Dubai, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Ras Al Khaimah, Oman and Ajman. As a documentary maker, he has produced several films, most notably working with Hollywood stars Morgan Freeman and Sir Patrick Stewart.
