To support and expand the persimmon production in Azerbaijan, the Association of Persimmon Producers and Exporters was created upon the initiative of local entrepreneurs.

The main task of the Association, supported by the Economy Ministry, is to increase production of competitive and export-oriented products under the brand "Made in Azerbaijan".

The establishment of the structure was announced during an event in the Goychay region, which brought together about 50 entrepreneurs specializing in the production and export of persimmons and representatives of the Ministry of Economy and the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO).

The head of the "Siracoglu Farming" company, Gadir Yusifov, was appointed the chairman of the Association. The newly-established association becomes the 10h structure established in the country to boost the non-oil sector production.

AZPROMO Vice President Yusif Abdullayev, addressing the event, stressed that diversification of non-oil exports is a priority issue for the Ministry of Economy and AZPROMO.

“Expanding exports is priority. We are talking about supplies not only to the CIS countries, but also to European and Asian countries. The creation of such an association from the organizational point of view will help entrepreneurs involved in this industry to produce persimmons in accordance with international standards, so that their products can be more widely represented in the EU markets,” Abdullayev said.

In total, within the promotion of the ‘Made in Azerbaijan’ brand export missions were organized to China, the UAE, Germany, Pakistan, Qatar, Kazakhstan and Afghanistan. Within the framework of export missions, Azerbaijan has already concluded agreements on the supply of wine to China, apple and pomegranate juice in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Malaysia, industrial paints in Kazakhstan.

Persimmon, cultivated in Azerbaijan, contains large amounts of glucose, fructose, organic acids, vitamin C, and other health properties that make it a natural medicine. The fruit helps to fight weakness, anemia, vitamin deficiency, and chronic gastrointestinal diseases.

The fruit is the perfect source for fiber, phytonutrients, flavonoids, and antioxidants. The amount of fructose is high in persimmon, which is why people should enjoy it carefully and not eat too much. Moreover, it enhances the activity of the digestive process, regulates metabolism, as well as has a good effect on the treatment of diseases of the cardiovascular system.

Autumn is the perfect time to enjoy persimmon, also dubbed the “food for the gods”, available in Lankaran, Goychay, Agdash, Agdam, Ganja and Zagatala regions of Azerbaijan
