59 state border violators detained in Azerbaijan

The State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan provided the statistics of detained and seized people on the border of Azerbaijan for September.

Employees of the State Border Service (SBS) of Azerbaijan thwarted 36 attempts of border violations resulting in 59 people detained, the Service reported on October 11.

Among those detained 25 people were citizens of Azerbaijan, 15 from Iran, six from Uzbekistan, five from Bangladesh, two from citizens of Russia and Georgia, and one Ukrainian, Belgium, Uganda and Kenya citizens respectively.

As many as 15 people were detained while preventing 14 cases of violation of border regime rules fixed in the Caspian Sea.

Hence, 1,153 people 148 cases were arrested while preventing at the border control, and relevant measures were taken with respect to them.

At the same time, 373 people who were declared wanted by law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan were detained and handed over to the relevant bodies and law enforcement agencies of Azerbaijan.

Thus, border guards prevented 13 cases of smuggling, averting trafficking of over 5 kilograms of narcotic substances across the state border. As a result, over five kilograms of drugs were revealed and confiscated.

Under the measures taken within the fight against smuggling, contraband on a total of 158,000 manats ($99,000) was also seized by employees of the SBS in September.
