Chiril Gaburici leaving Azercell

Azercell Telecom LLC has announced that its recent CEO Chiril Gaburici is leaving a company at the end of this year as his contract has come to an end. Chiril Gaburici decided to pursue other career opportunities outside of Teliasonera Group.

He has been with the Group for almost 14 years, and prior to joining Azercell in September 2012, Chiril Gaburici worked as a CEO at Moldcell.

“When his contract now is ending and Chiril will address new opportunities outside the Group I thank him for the loyalty, time and efforts that he spent during the year. I sincerely wish him all the best for the future” said Erik Hallberg, EVP TeliaSonera Group and President Eurasia.

Vahid Mursaliyev, Head of Legal Department of Azercell Telecom will perform as Acting CEO from January 5, 2015 until a new CEO will be appointed by its Board.

“I welcome Vahid to his new role. Together with a dedicated management team it´s our sincere belief we will continue the good turn we have seen during the last 6 months of the year,” Hallberg added.

Mursaliyev joined Azercell in 2005. Since then he has worked at various top management positions including those as a General Counselor to CEO and Director of Legal Affairs and General Administration department.

In 2000-2001 he obtained his PHD in Corporate Management in Case Western Reserve University in US. He is a member of International Bar Association, and Dr. of International Eco energy Academy. He is also a graduate of Faculty of Law of Baku State University.

The Company will start an executive search to find a successor for Gaburici.

Azercell introduced number of technological innovations in Azerbaijan: GSM technology, advance payment mobile services, GPRS/EDGE, 24/7 Customer Care, full-time operating Azercell Express offices, mobile e-service “ASAN imza” (ASAN signature) and others. With 51% share of Azerbaijan’s mobile market Azercell’s network covers 99.8% of the country’s population. Currently, the number of Azercell’s subscribers reached 4.6 million people. In 2011 Azercell deployed 3G and in 2012 the fourth generation network – LTE in Azerbaijan. The Company is the leader of Azerbaijan’s mobile communication industry and the biggest investor in the non-oil sector.
