Azerbaijan and Israel are eager to strengthen cooperation in agriculture and in human capacity-building.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between Israeli Ambassador to Azerbaijan Dan Stav and Head of the Guba Region Executive Power Yashar Mammadov.

Stav noted that the Jewish and other communities of the region coexist and cooperate peacefully and harmoniously.

During the visit to Guba, the ambassador and his team also visited the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex and were informed of the tragic events in this region and the history of the creation of this Memorial Complex.

In addition, the Ambassador and Consul of Israel in Azerbaijan Lilah Atias met with representatives of the Jewish community in the village of Krasnaya Sloboda in the Guba region.

The Azerbaijani and Jewish peoples have a long tradition of tolerance and interaction. Today´s friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Israel are built on centuries of shared Jewish-Azerbaijani coexistence.

The strategic relationship between the two countries covers cooperation in trade and security matters, cultural and educational exchanges.

Azerbaijan and Israel abolished double taxation between countries in April 2017.

Defense and energy sectors apart, the bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to $260 million in 2016.

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Israel amounted to $116.2 million in January-February 2017, which is 17.5 percent more compared to the same period of 2016, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan and Israel also cooperate closely in the field of energy. Israel buys 40 percent of its oil from Azerbaijan.
