Azerbaijan names trade rep to Russia

Ruslan Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Ateshgah Insurance Group, has been appointed a trade representative of Azerbaijan to Russia.

Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry announced about this on February 6, Trend reported.

Earlier, Deputy Economy Minister Sahil Babayev said that the country will appoint its first trade representative to Russia, which ranks the second among the country’s foreign trade partners. Also, it is planned to send the country’s next trade representatives to the UAE and China.

President Ilham Aliyev signed a relevant decree on January 26, and endorsed the economy minister to appoint trade representatives to the country’s diplomatic missions abroad.

Trade representatives will take measures to expand Azerbaijan`s economic and trade relations with foreign countries, protect economic interests of Azerbaijan, increase export of Azerbaijani goods and services, promote Azerbaijan’s business environment and investment opportunities.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia hit over $1.854 billion in 2015, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee.

Some 170 agreements, with 50 being in the sphere of economy have been so far concluded between the two countries.

In terms of interregional cooperation, around 40 Russian regions have already signed agreements with Azerbaijan on cooperation in different directions, and a number of business delegations representing the Russian regions will visit Baku starting March to boost the trade.
