Baku opens Honorary Consulate in Kharkiv

Azerbaijan has opened its Honorary Consulate in the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv.

Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to Kiev Eynulla Madatli, who addressed the inaugural ceremony, said President Ilham Aliyev pays special importance to expanding and deepening bilateral relations with Ukraine, AzerTag state news agency reported.

"I am confident that the Honorary Consulate in Kharkov will give a strong impetus to developing our official and business relations. I believe this will be an important step towards bringing our nations closer to each other in the fields of trade, economy, science, culture and education," the envoy said.

Azerbaijan`s Honorary Council Kharkov Afgan Salmanov, in turn, said "supporting the diaspora and establishing multilateral relations between the two friendly nations will be among key priorities of our mission".

"We`ll pay great attention to increasing the amount of mutual investments, strengthening trade, and also developing cooperation in the fields of tourism, education and sport," he said

The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani and Ukrainian ministries of foreign affairs, members of the diplomatic corps, and public figures. Apart from Kharkiv, the Honorary Consulate will cover Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Poltava, Sumy and Chernihiv.
