Azerbaijan, UAE mull new green energy co-op proposals

Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov and the UAE's Masdar company CEO Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi have discussed the company's new cooperation proposals in the green energy sector.

During the meeting, the parties evaluated Masdar's cooperation proposals within Azerbaijan's green energy policy and targets, in technical-economic and other aspects.

They discussed the expansion of cooperation through new projects on energy production from renewable sources.

Moreover, the two men discussed the work carried out in the commissioning of the Garadagh solar power plant in the scheduled time and mutual steps to speed up the implementation process. They emphasized that the projects currently implemented and planned with Masdar provide great opportunities that will ensure the export of electricity and hydrogen from renewable sources, as well as contribute jointly to the reduction of carbon emissions.

Parviz Shahbazov is visiting the United Arab Emirates to participate in the World Utilities Congress, underway in Abu-Dhabi on May 9-11, at the invitation of Energy and Infrastructure Minister Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei.

On March 15, Baku's Gulustan Palace saw a groundbreaking ceremony for the 230 MW Garadagh solar power plant.

The UAE's Masdar will construct the plant. The project's investment cost will be around $225 million.

The plant is designed to produce 500 million kWh of electricity per year and supply it to approximately 110,000 households. Furthermore, the plant will reduce gas consumption by 110 million cubic meters and environmental emissions by 200,000 tons. Over 500,000 solar panels are expected to be installed.

The solar power plant is scheduled to be put into operation by the end of the first half of 2023.
