The Parliamentary Assembly of Council of Europe (PACE) intends to develop cooperation with Azerbaijan on all directions, as well as within the organization’s structures, Pedro Agramunt, the newly elected president of PACE told reporters during his Baku visit on February 29.

The high-ranking official said he intends to discuss future cooperation with the officials of the Azerbaijani Parliament during his current visit to Baku.

In general, the relations between Azerbaijan and PACE stand at a good level, however there are issues that need to be discussed, Agramunt believes.

As a part of his visit, he plans to meet Ogtay Asadov, the Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, as well as to hold a number of other high-level meetings.

Agramunt was elected the PACE president at the organization’s winter session held in Strasbourg on January 25. In a period of 2010-2015, he was a PACE co-rapporteur on Azerbaijan.

PACE, a consultative body of the Council of Europe, holds meetings four times a year for part-sessions in Strasbourg. Organization’s scope of activities is of wide range of issues related to development and strengthening of local and regional democracy.
