Azerbaijani people to make right decision – top official
Azerbaijani Parliamentary Speaker Ogtay Asadov said that Azerbaijani people will make right decision in the upcoming presidential elections.
"The Azerbaijani people are very wise, and I'm sure they will have a say in the name of their future, and will choose their president," Asadov said opening the first meeting of the autumn session of the country's legislative body on September 30.
Asadov said that the autumn session coincides with such a significant event for the country as the presidential elections.
Azerbaijan will hold elections on October 9 to elect its president for the next five-year term.
According to the Constitution, the President of Azerbaijan is
elected for a five-year term through general, direct and equal
elections, by free, private and secret voting.
Azerbaijani citizens who have the right of election, initiative
groups of electors, political parties and blocs of political
parties are entitled to nominating candidates.
Campaigning for next month's presidential election which started on September 16 continues with ten candidates.
According to the electoral law, the official election campaign will last until 18:00 on October 8.
