Baku hosts conference devoted to renowned Russian artist

The Azerbaijan Museum of Carpet and Applied Art named after Latif Karimov on Wednesday hosted a scientific conference titled "Igor Burganov and modern carpet," AzerTac state news agency reported.

The conference co-organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, State Museum of Carpet and Applied Art and the Moscow State Museum "Burganovs House" was opened by the museum director Roya Tagiyeva and the Ministry official Ghalib Gasimov.

The speakers emphasized that in May 2012, the Baku-based Museum of Carpet and Applied Art hosted the exhibition titled "Contemporary carpet" of renowned Russian artist Igor Burganov.

In June 2012 there was announced a competition titled "Unlimited Art: World of Azerbaijani carpet in Igor Burganov's artworks". The competition was aimed at selecting the best scientific article dedicated to Igor Burganov's exhibition.

The conference was organized upon the results of this competition.

The first place went to the article "Carpet ballads of Igor Burdanov" by Ph.D. in art history Ophelia Mirzazade, the second place was given to ANAS candidate Turanhanum Shirzadova for the article "The manifestation of the universal values ​​of modern carpets" and the third place was given to the teacher of the Baku College of Management and Technology Sakhavat Umudova.

Russian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Vladimir Dorokhin presented letters of appreciation of the Russian Academy of Arts to Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan Adalat Valiyev, Director of the State Museum of Carpet and Applied Art Roya Tagiyeva and other participants.
