Sweden`s Plunge jazz trio will give a concert in Baku as part of the Baku International Jazz Festival , an annual jazz event organized by renowned saxophonist Rain Sultanov in October.

This year, the festival which attracts many famous foreign musicians to the City of Winds will feature performances of such renowned music bands as Gabriel Grossi Trio, Irakli Koiava Duet, Antonio Lizana Group and others.

The event aims at showcasing Azerbaijan's long-running attachment to the American-born art form, a connection first established in the country during the 1950s and 1960s, during a time when jazz was outlawed by Soviet authorities.

Plunge is a contemporary chamber-jazz trio from New Orleans led by trombonist/composer Mark McGrain. The group features collaborations with saxophonists Tim Green and Tom Fitzpatrick, bassists James Singleton and Avishai Cohen, tubist, Marcus Rojas, sousaphonist Kirk Joseph, and drummers Bob Moses and Doug Garrison.

The trio has been in existence since 2001. The Malmö-based trio deals with collectively improvised, acoustic music. Their music is based on interplay, presence, spontaneity and a far-reaching sense of form.

The jazz band has toured Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the UK and made several appearances on Swedish and European radio.
