The Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan is working on expanding the activity of technology parks and create new manufacturing enterprises in the field of high technologies, the Minister of Transport, Communications and High Technologies, Ramin Guluzade, said at the presentation of the innovative development project of Azerbaijan on October 26.

A high-tech business incubation center has been set up under the High Technologies Park LLC in order to stimulate innovation activity. Over 30 startups are currently operating there.

"In addition, the Research Center for High Technologies under the Ministry is working on priority areas in the field of nanotechnology now. The State Fund for Information Technology Support of the Ministry acts as an investor of successful projects to support innovative entrepreneurship. 117 projects were financed in this direction according to the results of the six grant competitions held earlier by the Fund,” the minister noted.

He further said that in many countries programs, strategies and roadmaps for the innovative development of the economy are worked out today.

"It is important to attract international and local experts for the preparation of these documents and that is why we highly appreciate the work of UNDP, which provided support in the preparation of a roadmap for innovation in Azerbaijan. UNDP plays a special role in global sustainable development," the minister said.

Azerbaijan has already opened a Technopark in Sumgait.

The Sumgait Technopark, being a pioneer in the creation of technology parks in the region, is a specialized giant complex of factories functioning in various production areas.

The establishment of such Industrial Center in Sumgait city is not only a boost in economic development of Azerbaijan, but also is a restoration of the historical traditions of Sumgait founded as an industrial center in the Caucasus.

All plants of the Sumgait Technopark are equipped with modern European equipment. The raw materials used in the production process are also imported from leading European countries.

All the plants of the park are equipped with laboratories made in Europe, accredited in accordance with the AZS ISO / IEC 17025-2009 standards, and all manufactured products have relevant certificates.

The High-Tech Park has already concluded major contracts for the export of cables with Georgia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. The signed agreements are already being fulfilled. The Sumgait Technopark plans to expand operations in the Central Asian market, as well as to enter the markets of Western Europe and Africa.

Some 28 types of cable are produced at the cable plant of Sumgait Technopark.

The park was commissioned by President Ilham Aliyev on December 22, 2009.
