Azerbaijan to help Egyptian business enter its market

Promising areas for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt will be considered in late November in Cairo at the upcoming meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission on trade and economic, as well as scientific and technical cooperation, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Egypt Tural Rzayev told Trend Nov. 11.

The upcoming meeting will be the fourth one since the creation of the commission. The last time the commission held its meeting in 2009 in Baku.

Currently, the main areas of the bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt are the sphere of energy, tourism, agriculture, medicine and pharmaceuticals, where African country has extensive experience, Rzayev said.

He added that the consideration of the course of implementation of agreements previously reached between Azerbaijan and Egypt, the study of the new prospects for cooperation between the two countries’ businessmen have been put on the agenda of the fourth meeting.

It is also planned to consider renewal and expansion of the legal framework between Azerbaijan and Egypt, the ambassador noted.

The two governments are also considering the possibilities for renewal and expansion of the legal framework, in particular in the field of education, tourism and others, he added.

"Egypt is also interested in studying the experience of ASAN Service," the diplomat said. "Egypt also shows considerable interest in the activity of Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA)."

Azerbaijan also intends to intensify its efforts to promote the Made in Azerbaijan brand in Egypt, as well as to expand the possibilities for Egyptian business to enter its market, Rzayev said.

Pharmacy is also the most important sector of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Egypt, he noted. Nowadays, Azerbaijan imports more than 30 pharmaceutical products from Egypt, the ambassador said.

Azerbaijan supplies oil and oil products, as well as chemical plants’ products to Egypt, and in turn imports pharmaceutical goods and citrus fruits from that country.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Egypt amounted to $4.53 million in January-September 2016, according to the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan.
