Azerbaijani karateka reaches semi-finals
Azerbaijani karateka, Aykhan Mamayev reached semi-finals at the
Baku 2015 European Games.
According to the results of the kumite karate events, he won the
second place in the group B in the 84 kilograms weight
category.
Mamayev and his opponent from Greece, Michail Georgios Tzanos ended
the first fight in the event with a draw, 0:0.
However, in the second fight, the Azerbaijani karateka defeated
Ukraine’s Yaroslav Horuna (6:3). In the last fight, he beat the
Frenchman Kenji Grillon with a score of 6:1.
The final standings in the men’s 84 kg karate group A is as
follows: Alvin Karaqi (Kosovo) - 6 points, Ugur Aktas (Turkey) – 4
points, Nello Maestri (Italy) - 2 points and Kamil Warda (Poland) -
0.
The final standings in the men’s 84 kg karate group B is as
follows: Michail Georgios Tzanos (Greece) - 5 points, Aykhan
Mamayev (Azerbaijan) - 5 points, Yaroslav Horuna (Ukraine) - 2
points, and Kenji Grillon (France) - 0.
In the men’s kumite karate +84 kg, Azerbaijan was represented by
Shahin Atamov, who was unable to reach the semi-finals.
The final standings in the men’s kumite karate +84 kg group A is as
follows: Jonathan Horne (Germany) - 6 points, Slobodan Bitevic
(Serbia) - 4 points, Moreno Sheppard (Netherlands) – 2 points, and
Filipe Reis (Portugal) - 0.
The final standings in the men’s kumite karate +84 kg group B is as
follows: Enes Erkan (Turkey) - 6 points, Martin Nestorovski
(Macedonia) - 3 points, Spyridon Margaritopoulos (Greece) - 3
points and Shahin Atamov - 0.
The European Games that kicked off in Baku June 12, will last till
June 28.
There is a total of 20 sports at Baku 2015: 16 Olympic sports and
four non-Olympic sports. More than 6,000 athletes from across
Europe will be representing their nations over 17 days of
competition.
Baku was awarded the games by the European Olympic Committees (EOC)
in December 2012.
