Preview of day 2 of the Baku 2015 Games
Eight highlights to look out for on 13 June at the Baku 2015 European Games
First gold medal of Baku 2015
Women's Mountain Bike, 12:00
Day two of Baku 2015 will feature eight sports, four of which will see medal events. Switzerland's Jolanda Neff is hot favourite to win the first gold medal of Baku 2015 when riders set off at the Mountain Bike Velopark. The young World Cup champion could be pushed by Poland's Maja Wloszczowska and Neff's fellow Swiss Kathrin Stirnemann.
The men's Mountain Bike gold medal race will follow at 15:30,
where a clean Swiss sweep of the podium appears likely. Three-time
world champion Nino Schurteris is favoured for gold, with
team-mates Lukas Fluckiger and Fabian Giger not far behind.
Bring it on
Greco-Roman Wrestling, from 10:00
Four gold medals will be decided on Saturday at Heydar Aliyev
Arena in Baku. One of the highlights could be a bout between two of
the world's top competitors, with Armenia's Roman Amoyan and Elman
Mukhtarov of Azerbaijan set to meet in the 59kg semi-finals.
Kumite champs clash
Karate, from 10:00
A highlight of the opening day in the Karate competition at Crystal Hall 3 will be the women's -50kg kumite division, where Austria's European champion Bettina Plank will face a major challenge from world No.1 Serap Ozcelik of Turkey, not to mention France's Alexandra Recchia and Germany's Duygu Bugur.
Six gold medals will be awarded in Karate on Saturday.
Olympic 1-2 in Baku
Women's Triathlon, 12:30
Nicola Spirig of Switzerland and Sweden's Lisa Norden needed a
photo finish to separate them at the London 2012 Olympic Games,
with Spirig claiming gold by the smallest of margins. The pair go
head-to-head again at Baku 2015, but Ireland's Aileen Reid has a
chance to beat both.
Pool rivals
Men's Water Polo, 15:00
Group A will see a match-up between rivals Russia and Ukraine on
day one of the men's competition at Baku 2015.
Russian revenge
Women's Volleyball, from 09:00
The game of the day in Crystal Hall 1 pitches reigning European
champions Russia against a strong Dutch team at 20:00. Last month
at the Montreux Masters in Switzerland, the Netherlands defeated
Russia 3-1 to add extra spice to the clash.
Star in the pool
Synchronised Swimming, solo from 10:00
Russian soloist Anisiya Neborako, the double world junior
champion, will be the star of the show at the Baku Aquatics Centre
as Russia seek to extend their dominance from day one.
Teenage ambition
Table Tennis, women's from 09:30, men's from 16:30
Croatian teenager Tomislav Pucar, a 2013 European Junior Championship silver medallist, was called up as a last-minute replacement for the injured Tomislav Kolarek and will play in the team match against Austria at 19:30.
