Kazakhstan has the right to withdraw from the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU), if its interests are violated.

These remarks were made by Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev in his recent interview, local Ukrainian media reported.

"If the rules set out in the agreement [on the establishment of the EEU] are not implemented, Kazakhstan has the right to withdraw from the EEU. I have said it before and I say it again," Nazarbayev noted.

He went on to add that Kazakhstan will not be a member of the organizations which threaten its independence.

"Our independence is our most precious treasure, which our forefathers fought for," he said. "Firstly, we will never surrender our independence and, secondly, we will do everything possible to protect it."

Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Russia signed an agreement on the establishment of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) on May 29.

The agreement consists of four large sections, including about 1,000 pages, 28 chapters, 118 articles and 32 applications.

The first article of the agreement specifies that the union is an international organization that focuses on regional integration.

The main conditions to join the organization are: having unified tariffs and technical regulations, harmonizing labor and immigration legislation and establishing a unified banking system.
