This year, charming Baku will be infested with hundred thousands of tourists, as the country will be the venue for several significant sporting events.

The 2016 UEFA European Under-17 Championship finals, 8th round of the 2016 FIA Formula One World Championship, as well as the 42nd World Chess Olympiad will gather many sporting fans to the Land of Fire.

The World Chess Olympiad scheduled for September 1-14 will probably please many intellectuals, as it will bring together strongest chess masters from across the world.

FIDE’s major chess event, will be staged in Baku for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan, that’s why organizers promise to make it unforgettable for spectators.

About 2,000 chess masters from 175 countries, playing with “White” and “Black” will show a breathtaking play.

An unusual shape building Baku’s Crystal Hall, once hosting Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, will welcome the tournament.

One will have a chance to witness this exciting tournament, as the country’s president has already signed an order aiming at simplification of visa procedures for the tourists.

Foreigners and stateless persons, arriving in Azerbaijan for participating in the World Chess Olympiad, can get visas at the structural subdivisions of the foreign ministry’s consular department in Azerbaijan’s international airports.

Visas will be issued from August 20 to September 20.

Meanwhile, preparations for the event are currently underway and Mahir Mammadov, the director of the operations committee for the World Cup and the Chess Olympiad said that negotiations are now being done to provide a high level of security for the athletes and guests.
