Traveling to Azerbaijan could be easier for Malaysians by late 2015 if the Azerbaijan government reciprocates Malaysia’s gesture of offering a 30-day free visa to their citizens.

Malaysian Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman said the proposal is under consideration by the ministries of both countries, the Malaysian Agency Bernama reported.

"Visa-free regime for Malaysians to visit Azerbaijan probably can be achieved by the end of this year or in subsequent year," he said.

Roslan also pointed to the possibility of Azerbaijanis to visit Malaysia on a visa-free regime.

Currently Malaysians have to pay about 188 Malaysian ringgit (1 USD=3.613 MYR) for a 30-day visa to visit Azerbaijan.

Malaysia recognized Azerbaijan’s independence on December 31, 1991.

Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on April 05, 1993. In 2013, the two countries celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Malaysian embassy in Azerbaijan started its duties on March 31, 2014.
