Khojaly genocide remembered with alpine skiing marathon

“Run for Justice” marathon initiated by the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan in Slovenia and supported by Azerbaijani businessmen living in Austria was held in Slovenia.

The marathon of professional alpine skiers of Austria took place within the “Justice for Khojaly” campaign at the Rogla Olympic and ski centre, famous in Europe.

Wearing jackets with “Justice for Khojaly” slogan, the fastest alpine skiers were presented the “Justice for Khojaly” cups by the diplomatic mission in Slovenia.

The “Justice for Khojaly” alpine skiing marathon was joined by Slovenia’s Olympic Committee officials, diplomats, master of sports, media representatives and some hundred skiers of Slovenia.

Members of Slovenian parliament have also joined the four-hour marathon.

M. Rudi, member of the Slovenia’s upper chamber of parliament said he would promote for adoption of the documents on the Khojaly genocide presented by the Azerbaijani diplomatic mission to the parliament of this country.

In 1992, the town of Khojaly came under intense fire from the towns of Khankendi and Askeran already occupied by the Armenian armed forces. 613 civilians mostly women and children were killed in the massacre, and a total of 1,000 people were disabled. Eight families were exterminated, 25 children lost both parents, and 130 children lost one parent.

Moreover, 1,275 innocent people were taken hostage, the fate of 150 of them remains unknown. Many civilians were shot at close range, scalped or burned alive.
