Iran’s new administration to eye budget bill

Iran's current year budget bill will be revised as one third of government incomes will not be realized, Vice President Es'haq Jahangiri said.

The budget bill has envisaged 2100 trillion rials (about $84 billion) in government incomes, but it should be changed to 1400 trillion rials (about $56 billion), he noted, ISNA reported.

He went on to say that one of the most important measures of the new administration will be the revision of the budget bill in the parliament by the next 100 days.

The current Iranian calendar year started on March 21.

In July, economic advisor to the president, Mohammad Bagher Nobakht, said that the current year's budget is too optimistic so the next administration should revise it.

The budget should be based on realistic figures and in line with the government's revenues and expenses," he said.

Previously some MPs had requested for an amendment to the budget bill.

Conservative MP Ahmad Tavakoli had said that the current year's budget is not realistic and may result in even higher inflation.

The Iranian parliament approved the current year's 7.270 quadrillion rials budget bill in May.
