Tajikistan’s role in strengthening regional security is important – US
Tajik President Emomali Rahmon received Commander of U.S. Central Command Lloyd Austin III on July 30.
The presidential press-service reported that the meeting discussed issues of the bilateral multifaceted cooperation, primarily in the fields of defense and regional security.
Emomali Rahmon and Lloyd Austin III expressed satisfaction with
the level and content of the bilateral relations and the
interaction aimed at promoting peace and stability in Afghanistan
and prevention of terrorism and extremism threat.
General Lloyd Austin III noted the important role of Tajikistan in
strengthening regional security, and expressed gratitude to the
Tajik President and people for active assistance in the peace
restoration in Afghanistan.
The parties also discussed further steps aimed at providing the
military and special forces, including Tajikistan's border troops,
with material and technical support to strengthen protection of its
state border with Afghanistan, especially after 2014.
The parties stressed their mutual commitment to further
strengthening and expanding relations.
