Double standards against Azerbaijan to be ineffective

States, which pursue a policy of double standards towards Azerbaijan, will not reach their goals, said Bayram Safarov, the chairman of the Azerbaijani Community of Nagorno-Karabakh.

Noting that Armenian lies are presented in the print media of several countries as the truthful information, Safarov criticized such actions.

The official noted that the work undertaken by the Azerbaijani government was instrumental in bringing the realities of Azerbaijan to the world community.

He underlined that Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity is recognized throughout the world.

Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that had caused a lengthy war in the early 1990s.

More than 20,000 Azerbaijanis were killed and nearly 1 million were displaced as a result of the war.

Peace talks over the long-lasting Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are underway on the basis of a peace outline proposed by the Minsk Group co-chairs and dubbed the Madrid Principles. However, as Armenia continues to follow non-constructive position, the negotiations have been largely fruitless so far despite the efforts of the co-chair countries over 20 years.

Large-scale hostilities ended with a Russia-brokered ceasefire in 1994 but Armenia continued the occupation in defiance of four UN Security Council resolutions calling for immediate and unconditional withdrawal.
