Allergies: side-effect of spring

The arrival of spring and warming of the weather enlivens the nature, but at the same time it creates favorable conditions for the spread of a number of diseases, including allergies.

The diseases which come along cause a variety of problems and make people feel uncomfortable. Factors such as the shortening of nights and prolongation of daytime affect sleeping patterns by changing the hormone balance of the body. The changes in sleeping patterns cause such problems as constant fatigue, forgetfulness, etc.

Spring is the favourite season of many people but mainly for those who don't have allergies during this season.

An allergy is a hypersensitivity disorder of the immune system. Allergic reactions occur when a person's immune system reacts to normally harmless substances in the environment. A substance that causes a reaction is called an allergen. These reactions are acquired, predictable, and rapid and are one of the four forms of hypersensitivity.

Allergy is the most severe among the problems which are widespread in spring. Spring is the time when most people suffer from allergies because during this period the pollen count is the highest. As the trees start to bloom and the pollen becomes airborne, the people prone to allergies begin to suffer from sniffling and sneezing.

According to statistics, every two out of ten people suffer from allergies. Even scientists called the 21st century an "allergy century."

Spring allergies are signalled by the following symptoms: stuffy or runny nose, itchy and watery eyes, congestions, skin itches and even hard breathing. Often spring allergies cause asthma attacks which are a reaction to the accumulated pollen in the lungs.

According to allergologist Leyla Ismayilova, the most affected organ is the eyes. As a result of a seasonal allergy, itchiness, redness and vascular expansion in the eyes is observed.

According to the doctor, in order to prevent allergy in the eyes, an air-conditioner could be used at home, and also it is recommended to use glasses to protect the eyes from the pollen in spring and summer.

Besides, there are certain ways to prevent spring allergies. The first and most important one is to remain indoors when the pollen count is the highest. This usually happens between 5.00 and 10.00 in the morning, therefore, people with spring allergies are advised to stay inside during this time of the day.

To prevent spring allergies, one needs to keep the windows closed as much as possible and avoid hanging clothes outside. Also, you need to change your sheets often. In order to avoid pollen clinging to furniture and carpets, you should take a shower as soon as you come back home and wash your clothes.

Also, consider the use of natural supplements that will make your immune system stronger. There are also special anti-allergic supplements that contain a blend of herbs, enzymes and nutrients, chosen specifically to treat acute allergies.

In addition, you should take vitamin C because it reduces the levels of histamine in the blood and prevents the symptoms of spring allergies. Also, people with allergies should avoid eating dairy products, sugar, wheat and rice, and add more fruits and vegetables to their diet.

Other diseases in spring

Infections of the skin caused by bacteria and fungus rise and aggravate through spring time over bathing in unclean water.

Bronchial asthma or allergic bronchitis increase due to pollen and higher quantities of dust in the atmosphere. Gastrointestinal bacterial infections are also more frequent in spring. The viral hepatitis rate increases as well.

Dehydration and sunstrokes in children and adults above 50 years old begin during this season and last through summer.

In spring, more people are infected with parasites, like dysentery generated by endamebas, by the ingestion of grimy veggies and fruits, water contaminated by sewage, and by lightly cooked foods.

Some infections transmitted by mosquitoes and other insects are a real hazard for humans and other animals; for example, dengue, West Nile Fever, etc.

Besides, one of the diseases observed in spring is chickenpox. The symptoms of chickenpox include red, itchy rashes on the skin. Other symptoms are fever, abdominal pain, sore throat, headache, or a sick feeling a day or two before the rashes appear.

Moreover, the spring season has an influence on people's psychological state. As a result of the change in the air with the arrival of spring, some people constantly feel weak and sleepy. According to psychologists, the common fatigue observed in spring is related to metabolism.

Despite all these diseases and problems, spring is one of the beautiful seasons of the year. Besides, if we take care of ourselves and try to lead a healthy lifestyle, we can handle any disease or problem. Moreover, we should not forget about the beautiful, bright summer that comes right after spring. Let's enjoy every season of the year and live our life healthily and happily!
