Swan Lake: Whirlwind of magic in Baku featuring leading soloists of Mariinsky Theatre [PHOTOS]
The Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater has presented one of the most celebrated masterpieces of world art – Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet "Swan Lake" at the Heydar Aliyev Palace, Azernews reports.
Tickets were sold out long before the performance, and the evening became a true celebration for lovers of classical ballet. The participation of leading soloists from St. Petersburg’s Mariinsky Theater gave the event a special international status.
"Swan Lake", a work that has never lost its magic over the decades was presented to the Baku audience in its classical version. The production was staged in three acts and four scenes, preserving the traditions of academic ballet and its expressive choreographic language.
The central roles of the evening were performed by acclaimed masters of the stage. The role of Odette–Odile was embodied by Mariinsky Theater prima ballerina Oksana Skorik, whose performance was distinguished by refined lyricism, technical perfection, and dramatic depth. The role of Prince Siegfried was performed by leading Mariinsky soloist and Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Timur Asgarov, who conveyed the nobility of the character and demonstrated a high level of stage mastery.
Aghamir Mirzoyev appeared as the sinister Rothbart, creating a vivid and memorable stage image. A highlight of the performance was the role of the Jester, performed by Miraydin Abdullayev, whose artistry and virtuosity were warmly received by the audience.
Special attention was drawn to the pas de trois, performed by Ayan Eyvazova, Liana Praga, and Timur Odushev, who demonstrated harmonious ensemble interaction and high technical skill. The roles of the Little Swans were danced by Yulia Fershtandt, Leyla Narimanidze, Sabina Hajidadash, and Dinara Mammadova, while the Great Swans were portrayed by Liana Praga, Honored Artist Elmira Suleymanova, and Sabina Mammadova, creating a unified and expressive picture of the ballet’s famous ensemble scenes.
The production was based on the classical choreography of Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, in the version by Alexander Gorsky and Gamar Almaszade, which preserved the historical authenticity and artistic value of the performance. The preparation of the performers was carried out by People's Artists Medina Aliyeva and Gulagasi Mirzoyev, as well as Honored Artist Yuri Lobachyov.
The musical accompaniment was provided by People's Artist Javanshir Jafarov, whose conducting emphasized the drama and poetry of Tchaikovsky's score. The production was also directed by Yuri Lobachyov. The concertmaster was Zuleikha Usubova, and the artistic design of the performance belonged to Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR Anvar Almaszade.
The staging of "Swan Lake" became a significant cultural event, once again confirming the high level of ballet art and the great interest of the Baku public in classical productions of the world repertoire.
