An Action Plan has been approved, by the order of the head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan Ramiz Mehdiyev, for holding the 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Baku, Trend reports.

The relevant structures have been given instructions for carrying out the work stipulated by the Action Plan.

The 43rd session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee will be held in Baku from June 30 to July 10.

The agreement to organize the 43rd session of the World Heritage Committee in Baku was signed by Azerbaijan's Minister of Culture Abulfaz Garayev and UNESCO Deputy Director General Ernesto Ottone Ramirez.

The document features the responsibilities of both Azerbaijan and UNESCO on the organization of the event.

In addition, the document touches upon issues on the organization of the Young Professionals Forum to be held ahead of the session.

Azerbaijan became member of UNESCO on June 3 1992, after restoration of its independence.

In 2003, Azerbaijan and UNESCO signed the framework agreement on cooperation in the areas of culture, science, education and communication, which allowed Azerbaijan to become one of the donors of UNESCO.

In 2017, the organization marked the 600th anniversary of the death of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadaddin Nasimi.

Moreover, last year UNESCO also celebrated the 200th anniversary of the first settlement of Germans in Azerbaijan. In 2013, with the support of UNESCO the 900th anniversary of Azerbaijani poetess Mahsati Ganjavi was celebrated in Paris.

Baku will also host several UNESCO events during 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue. The second meeting of the heads of international organizations and the ministerial conference will be held in Baku as part of the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue in Baku.

The decision was made at a meeting of the international working group “Baku Process” held at the UNESCO headquarters.

The program and documents of the concept of the 5th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue were discussed at the meeting with the participation of officials of the UNESCO Secretariat, the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the EU, the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) and other members of the working group.

Azerbaijani Culture Minister Abulfas Garayev reminded that the Baku Process was launched in 2008 at the initiative of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and as part of this process, the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue has been held four times, adding that the Baku International Humanitarian Forum, ministerial conferences and other international events have been held six times over the past 10 years.

UNESCO’s Director of Partnerships and Outreach at the Social and Human Sciences Sector Magnus Magnusson noted that UNESCO will hold five events as part of this forum.
