Azerbaijan’s state communication operator Aztelekom will expand the coverage of the Secure Internet Service, stipulating provision of filtering service for users to secure from undesirable Internet content.

Currently, the service is launched in test mode in nine regions, including Absheron Peninsula, Imishli, Naftalan, Goychay, Shirvan, Lankaran, Gabala, Oguz and Hajigabul and is offered on the basis of appeals from subscribers.

The coverage of the system is planned to be expanded from the second quarter of 2017.

The content filtering services protect children from the influence of undesirable websites, restricting access to certain digital content (web pages containing information for adults, gambling, obscene language, information that promotes violence, etc.).

The user can activate and deactivate Internet content filtering at any time. In addition, it is possible to create a "white" and "black" list and include relevant content in them, which also allows one to limit access to undesirable information.

In Baku, the Secure Internet service is carried out here by Baku Telephone Communications Production Union and is available for users of BakinterNet Internet service provider.

In Azerbaijan, with over 9.6 million people, about 77 percent of the population has an internet connection. As of July 2016, about 73.65 percent of Azerbaijani teenagers for the past 12 months used Internet for communication.

Earlier, the Teaching and Innovation Center of the Institute of Information Technologies of ANAS reported it will create a center of child safety on the Internet. The Center will be engaged in an intellectual analysis of the obtained information, thus playing an important role in solving this problem.
