Meet the artist: Butunay Hagverdiyev

YARAT Contemporary Art Space invites everyone to attend the next event within “Meet the artist” programme that will allow art lovers to familiarize with various mediums and techniques used by contemporary artists.

The next event will be held in YARAT Contemporary Art Space on May 9.

Those interested are kindly invited to attend event with participation of young artist Butunay Hagverdiyev.

Butunay Hagverdiyev graduated from British Higher School of Art and Design, Moscow (2001) and Azim Azimzade Art college, Painting faculty (Baku 2005, 2009).

He has been invited to a number of international residencies, including a residency in gallery Svalbard (Svalbard is. Norway).

The artist's works have been exhibited both locally and internationally. Selected list of exhibitions includes: Azerbaijani carpets in art exhibition in Cannes festival palace 2015; Crossing solo exhibition in Q gallery (Baku, 2014); 55th Venice biennale Azerbaijan national pavilion ; the International Salon in Central House of Artists, (Moscow, 2013); Zavod contemporary art exhibition. Yarat. (Baku, 2012); End of the year show Artplay, BHSAD (Moscow, 2012); Group exhibition Legacy in Euro Union embassy. (Baku); Situational Sculpture group exhibition, Artplay (Moscow, 2012); On soz contemporary art exhibition. Yarat (Baku, 2011); Before, During, After Personal exhibition , Contemporary Art Centre(Baku, 2010)

Moreover, Butunay also curated a number of exhibitions in frames of Yar Ad An project, gallery and space for young artists, including Resonance group exhibition , Yar Ad An (2009) and “У Чушь( Flight)” group exhibition.

He has gained extensive experience in fresco painting and restoration in 2003 – 2008, when he was working in a group of artists in orthodox church of St. Bartholomew, Baku.

YARAT is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to nurturing an understanding of contemporary art in Azerbaijan and to creating a platform for Azerbaijani art, both nationally and internationally. Based in Baku, YARAT (meaning CREATE in Azerbaijani) was founded by Aida Mahmudova in 2011.

YARAT realizes its mission through an on-going program of exhibitions, education events and festivals. YARAT facilitates exchange between local and international artistic networks including foundations, galleries and museums.
