Azerbaijan is continuing the construction of nine highways, as well as two railways, in Karabakh, Azernews reports, citing Bashir Hajiyev, chief adviser to the presidential representative for the Karabakh economic region.

Hajiyev made the remarks at the panel session on the “Business in Karabakh and investment opportunities" topic, held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Exhibition Restoration, Reconstruction and Development of Karabakh ‒ Rebuild Karabakh.

"Work is underway to create new infrastructure on Azerbaijan's liberated territories. This includes building four schools, two of which will be commissioned this year, a medical facility in Aghdam. In addition, a number of construction projects have been approved for Aghdam," he said.

Hajiyev emphasized that Karabakh has enormous potential for ecotourism.

"We can say that almost every city and region of Karabakh has such potential," he added.

Hajiyev underlined the Zangazur corridor's enormous potential for cargo movement in a variety of directions.

Furthermore, the Azerbaijan Railways Spokeswoman Natavan Bayramova said that the design and construction activities on the Barda-Aghdam railway line have been started under the presidential decree, dated November 24, 2020. The 47.1-km railway consists of a single track and the construction is being carried out in two stages.

She added that the project includes the construction of 133 artificial engineering facilities, four stations (Barda, Kocharli, Tazakand, and Aghdam), and 34 interchange facilities. Currently, 58 percent of the work has been completed on the project.

“The construction-installation activities on the 110-km Horadiz-Aghband railway line, founded by President Ilham Aliyev on February 14, 2021, are being carried out in three stages. The route of the railway line will consist of nine stations (Horadiz, Marjanli, Mahmudlu, Soltanli, Gumlag, Hakari, Minjivan, Bartaz, Agband). Within the framework of the project, it is planned to build a total of 453 artificial engineering facilities, including 70 road crossings. At present, earthwork and construction of artificial facilities are ongoing in the 62-71 kilometer segment. Both projects are expected to be completed by the end of 2023," Bayramova stressed.
