Azerbaijan is turning into a most popular tourist destination in Asia, while more and more travelers have a burning desire to visit this country, especially during the national holidays.

Although the New Year is around the corner, many tourists have already booked hotels for the forthcoming Novruz Bayram, which will be marked in late-March.

The colorful holiday accompanied by interesting traditions, customs and events have always been a sort of entertainment for many tourists from the neighboring countries.

Novruz is one of the most cherished holidays of many Azerbaijanis, when people are kind of uniting with nature, since spring is coming and nature is awakening. Symbolizing the end of an old year and beginning of a new year, this holiday is the oldest festival of spring and included in the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Culture and Tourism Minister Abulfaz Garayev said that most rooms in the country’s hotels have already been booked for Novruz.

Speaking at the first meeting of the Tourism Council, Garayev said that in recent months, the president signed a number of documents, which contributed to the development of the tourism sector.

Garayev stressed that thanks to the measures to be implemented in accordance with the "Strategic Road Map", covering development of almost all sectors of the economy, tourism will become one of the most important sectors of the Azerbaijani economy.

The minister also informed about the creation of a National Bureau on propaganda of tourism.

"A wide range of projects are being implemented for the promotion of Azerbaijan. The National Bureau will carry out work on the marketing and promotion of tourism in the sphere of advertising," said Garayev.

Alongside promotion of the capital city, the government intends to focus on the propaganda of the beauty of its regions.

To this end, the government opened tourism information centers in Gabala, Ismayilli and Barda regions of Azerbaijan. These centers are going to stimulate tourist flow to these picturesque regions of the country.

The biggest regional information office is a Shahdag Information Center providing customers with the necessary information about one of the famous tourist attractions--- Shahdag complex located 30 km north of the Gusar town.
