As New Year is around the corner, people are packing their suitcases for an unforgettable winter holiday.

Azerbaijan, also known as the pearl of the Caucasus, already turned into a favorite holiday destination for many tourists. After sending off a successful summer season, now Azerbaijan is preparing to welcome winter guests.

In fact, this season the country expects to host a large number of foreign tourists, as the booked rooms in the country's hotels shows.

Azerbaijan Tourism Association Chairman Nahid Bagirov said that the Land of Fire expects a large number of tourists from Arab countries, especially UAE from November 30 to December 5-6.

He said that almost all the rooms in the country's hotels have been booked on the occasion of the forthcoming holiday.

Earlier, the Association reported about influx of tourists from Russia, Iran, and Arab countries.

"On the eve of the holiday we will notice increase in number of travelers from Russia and other countries. All rooms in hotels of the country's regions such as Gabala, Gusar and Guba have already been reserved," he said. "We will see many Russian tourists as they are interested in skiing."

Bagirov noted that Russian tourists make more than 30 percent of the total number of tourists visiting the country.

Russian tourists do not need a visa to enjoy visiting the country. Here Russian-speaking tourists have no problem with communication, as Azerbaijanis speak Russian well enough to help with any difficulties.

Mentioning new agreements with Arab countries, Bagirov said this leads to the growth of Arab tourists visiting Azerbaijan.

"Tourism companies and hotels of Azerbaijan and Kuwait held a meeting on November 26 in Kuwait. They got acquainted with the tourism potential of Azerbaijan," he said.

Starting January 20 direct flights between Azerbaijan and Kuwait will open leading to a significant increase in the trade relations between the two states.

"I hope it will lead to the development of winter tourism. Kuwaitis are very interested in Azerbaijan," he added.

Winter season, which is open in Azerbaijan by December 15, is no less attractive as the summer season, suggesting many activities for individual and family holidays.

Many resorts have already started preparatory process to be able to meet highest standards.

Despite being a hot country perfect for summer holidays, Azerbaijan is offering wintry holidays for both locals and foreign visitors in its Shahdag and Tufandag complexes, located on the north of the country.

Winter in Azerbaijan is also a lovely season of food lovers and gourmands, who can enjoy delicious fruits and meals here.
