Air Arabia, one of the first low-cost airlines of the Middle East, will open flights to Azerbaijan from next year.

The direct flight will be performed from the third largest city in the UAE – Sharjah to Baku. The launch of the flight is scheduled for March 16, 2017.

The flights will be carried out four times per week.

On Thursdays and Sundays, departing from Sharjah will be carried out at 7:55 am local time, with the arrival in Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport at 10:50 Baku time. The return flight will depart from Baku at 11:30 with arrival in Sharjah at 14:10 local time.

On Tuesdays and Saturdays, departing from Sharjah will be at 14:55 local time, with the arrival in Baku’s Airport at 17:50 Baku time. The return flight on these days will be carried out from Baku at 18:50 with arrival at Sharjah airport at 21:30 local time.

Tickets for booking are available on the official website of the company. The roundtrip ticket from Sharjah to Baku for week on March 16 is $273.

CEO of Air Arabia Adel Al said Baku gives the opportunity to see the fusion of history and modern urbanism.

“The opening of new Air Arabia flights will increase trade and tourism between the two countries. We are grateful to the Azerbaijani authorities for all their efforts and cooperation that helped launch a new route connecting Sharjah and Baku,” he said.

Currently, there is a visa-free regime for persons with diplomatic and service passports, and since 2015, the UAE citizens has been visiting Azerbaijan on the basis of a simplified visa system. They can obtain entry visa, valid for 30 days’ stay, at any international airport in Azerbaijan.

Now Azerbaijan proposes to introduce a visa-free regime for citizens of both the UAE and Azerbaijan. “The UAE government has already given prior consent, and now the issue is under consideration,” said earlier Ambassador Dashgin Shikarov.
