Synergy Baku to compete at Czech Cycling Tour
By Amina Nazarli
The Synergy Baku Cycling Project is preparing for the Czech
Cycling Tour, with a small but strong squad. The 2.1 UCI race
covers four stages between August 13 and 16.
Maksym Averin will be the team’s man for the sprints, with veterans
Matej Mugerli and Markus Eibegger having an eye on the overall
rankings. Tural Isgandarov and Elgun Alizada will support their
teammates.
"We are excited about sending a team to the Czech Tour, it's an
honour for us to line up against teams like Etixx-Quick Step,” said
team manager David McQuaid. “But its great for our riders too as we
have riders in strong form like Mugerli and Eibegger, the latter
whom is coming back from injury well now. And then also we've
Averin and Isgandarov from the Azerbaijani side so it will be
interesting to see how we can mix it with the big teams."
The UCI 2.1 race covers 542 kilometers over four stages. It opens
Thursday evening with a 20.4km team time trial, not an accustomed
experience for the Synergy Baku riders.
Stage two, ends with several laps of a flat circuit course, with a bunch sprint expected. The third stage, along a rolling course, offers a good chance for a successful break group. The race closes with the Queen Stage, with seven ranked climbs.
