Scrap import volume approved for Uzbek plant for 2015
The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan approved the volume of
imports of scrap and ferrous metal waste in the amount of 280,000
metric tons for a full capacity of the Uzbek Metallurgical Plant
(Uzmetkombinat, Bekabad city, Tashkent region) in accordance with
its resolution in 2015.
The plant imported 280,000 metric tons of scrap and ferrous metal
waste in 2014.
The plant is exempt from the customs duties on the volumes of scrap
and ferrous metal waste in accordance with the resolution of the
Cabinet of Ministers, posted in the electronic media in
Uzbekistan.
Scrap and ferrous metal waste is used for the production of
metal-roll, retained as the payment for the services of processing
scrap and ferrous metal waste imported into the country.
The plant is also exempt from the mandatory sale of foreign
currency revenue while making payments by using metal-roll for
imports of scrap upon tolling conditions.
The Uzbek Metallurgical Plant is the only ferrous metal enterprise
in Central Asia, working with scrap metal. The plant is the
exclusive manufacturer of ferrous metals in the country.
The plant was commissioned in 1956. Previously, it was recycling
scrap metal delivered from all Central Asian countries. Currently,
the plant uses metal produced in the country, as well as the raw
material purchased abroad under the terms of tolling.
The plant’s capacity is designed to produce 790,000 metric tons of
steel and 760,000 metric tons of varietal metal roll.
The plant increased steel production by 0.7 percent as of 2014,
compared to 2013 and brought its volume to 751,400 metric tons,
while the rolled ferrous metal production was increased by 1
percent and stood at 725,200 metric tons.
Currently, the plant is implementing the program for development
and modernization of production till 2016. The cost of the project
is $134.7 million. The modernization program is financed with the
own funds of the enterprise.
It is expected that the implementation of the program will allow to
increase the enterprise’s design capacity for steel production by
13.3 percent and bring its volume to 850,000 metric tons by 2016,
recycled scrap metal – almost 1.8 times (670,000 metric tons) and
to reduce the plant’s power inputs by 20 percent.
