Georgia has done a lot to comply Georgian agricultural products with EU standards.

Agriculture Minister Shalva Pipia made the remarks at the meeting with the head of the EU-Twinning division of the Eastern Partnership program and the German Federal Ministry for Economy and Energ, Ulrich Benterbusch, in Tbilisi.

Pipia said Georgia has taken another important step for rapprochement with the European family.

"Quite a lot of work has been done. Particularly, we have strengthened the National Food Agency of Georgia, made important changes to Georgia's National Code of Food," he said.

He added that a national program was developed considering adoption of about 90 legislative acts which will contain all the necessary requirements including manufacturing standards. "We have done a lot of work so that the Georgian products meet European standards and take their rightful place in the EU market," Pipia noted.

Benterbusch, in turn, stressed that the German government welcomes Georgia's desire to become a full member of the European family, and to take concrete steps in this regard.

"Our visit is aimed at familiarization with the situation in Georgia and determining the main directions, the support of which is of particular importance in the path of European integration of the country," he said.

The sides agreed to start implementation of the intergovernmental consultation in Georgia in autumn 2014 with the support of the German government. The German "BerlinEconomics" group will implement the project.
