Week of Russian films run in Baku

By Amina Nazarli

Film fans, a week of interesting films awaits you during the “Week of Russian Films in Azerbaijan” from October 1 to 7.

The event running in Baku is organized by the Russian Culture Ministry and “Kinofest” production center, with support from the Azerbaijan Culture and Tourism Ministry and the Embassy of Russia.

The event is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Russia in culture and cinematography.

Baku’s Nizami cinema will host the weeklong festival showcasing modern Russian films of various genres. The address of the venue is Bulbul avenue, 20.

All the films will be screened at 18:40 and are scheduled for the following: “Green Carriage” by Oleg Asadulin on October 2, “Dolly the sheep was evil and died early” by Aleksey Pimanov on October 3, “Ghost” by Aleksandr Voytinskiy on October 4, “Batalon” by Dmitriy Meskhiyev on October 5, “Elusive” by Artem Aksenenko on October 6, and “Mama daragaya” by Yaroslav Chevajevski on October 7.

The film "Green Coach" has not yet been released to Russian audiences and will be on display for the first time in Baku.

The film follows Vadim Rajewski, once a part of a large group of friends. The young people often spent time together, going to parties, and playing guitar. Years passed, and Vadim became a successful film director who has reached career heights -- his films are collecting cash, are the focus of attention from journalists, he has a good home, car and all the trappings of luxury living. But the fate of the hero took a sharp turn -- the sudden death of a loved one, after which everything changed. Vadim does not believe that the tragedy was an accident, and decided to discover the truth himself. The investigation revealed to him more and more unsavory facts.

“Dolly the sheep was evil and died early” is a film in the fantasy, adventure, and comedy genre, and is infused with the ironic nostalgia of the 1980s.

Another comedy, “Ghosts," tells the story of a pilot Yuriy Gordeyev. A talented, charming gentleman and a constant favorite of fortune, Gordeyev had always enjoyed success, both at work and with the opposite sex. However, everything changes when Yuriy has an accident, dies and becomes a ghost. Famous actor Fyodor Bondarchuk plays the lead role.

"Elusive" is a film in the adventure and crime comedy genre, which tells the story of a girl who was hit by a car at night in Moscow and is urgently in need of complex operations. Her friend Kira finds the culprit of the accident, the arrogant and cynical tycoon Sergey Polyansky, who refuses to admit his guilt and help the injured. He does not care, he had everything under control. But what happens next, no one knows ...
