The seventh International Music Festival will be held in Baku from September 18 to 28.

The festival is devoted to Azerbaijan's father of composed classical music and opera Uzeir Hajibeyli.

The festival has been held annually in Baku since 2009, welcoming many famous musicians, groups, soloists and conductors from around the world.

The event is co-organized by Heydar Aliyev Foundation and Culture and Tourism Ministry.

Some 55 well-known musicians and groups from Azerbaijan, Russia, Belarus, Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, Holland and Australia will take part in the event, to be held in Mugam Center. Among them: Belarus State Chamber Orchestra, the quintet of wind instruments "Arirang", "Young virtuosos of Australia" ensemble, Xenia Knorre, Andris Vechumnikes, Kasparas Uinskas and others.

The festival reflects the idea of intercultural dialogue, where Azerbaijani and foreign musicians hold joint performances.

Holding some master classes in Baku Music Institutions is also expected during the festival days.

The premier of "The Marriage of Figaro" by Mozart opera will be put on display for music lovers in Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

As part of the festival, a book exhibition and electronic information center called "Uzeyir Hajibeyli's Heritage" will be opened in Azerbaijan National Library named after Mirza Fatali Akhundzade.

Western and eastern styles were mixed in the works of Uzeir Hajibeyli. The elements of Azerbaijani folk music were adapted to the classical European traditions by him. Using this method Hajibeyli wrote the first Azerbaijani opera "Leyli and Majnun" in 1908, based on the same name poem by Azerbaijani poet Fuzuli.

The great and outstanding composer has composed the music of the national anthem of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Hajibeyli became the founder of a new genre of vocal chamber music - romance-gazelle, creating such works as "Without You" and "Sevgili Janan". In addition, Hajibeyli is also the founder of Azerbaijani opera school.
