Ukrainian ballet stars to perform in Baku

The Azerbaijani State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater will stage the ballet "Giselle" by Adolphe Adam on February 24.

The leading soloist of the Kharkov Opera and Ballet Theater Kristina Kadashevich was invited to perform the role of Giselle, Trend Life reported.

The ballet star has already performed in Germany, Austria, Italy, Belgium, the U.S., France, Japan, Holland and Spain. The foreign press and theater critics highly appreciate her unique talent and artistry.

The role of Count Albert will be played by People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of international competitions of ballet dancers Denis Nedak.

The ballet will be conducted by Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Eyyub Guliyev.

The romantic ballet in two acts was first performed in 1841.

"Giselle" ballet is about a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies of a broken heart after discovering her lover is betrothed to another. The Wilis, a group of supernatural women who dance men to death, summon Giselle from her grave. They target her lover for death, but Giselle's great love frees him from their grasp.

The performance was an unqualified triumph. Giselle became hugely popular and was staged at in Europe and the U.S.
