Finance ministers and heads of central banks of G20 member states have gathered in Turkey’s Ankara city, on September 4.

The high officials will discuss the situation in the global economy, as well as the sustainable and balanced development strategy.

Azerbaijan’s Finance Minister Samir Sharifov will attend the two-day meeting at the invitation of Turkish side which chairs the G20 in 2015, the Azerbaijani Finance Ministry reported.

The meeting participants will also discuss the investment and infrastructure issues, the international financial architecture, regulation of financial markets, international taxes and other issues.

In May, Ali Babacan, Turkey’s Deputy Prime Minister, said Azerbaijan is becoming an important player in the region and is an important partner of Turkey at the B20 Regional Consultation Forum in Baku as part of the G20.

“Azerbaijan’s economy saw its greatest development over the years of independence, which is of great importance not only for the country, but also for the entire region,” said Babacan. “Azerbaijan’s participation in the G20 summit will further strengthen its role in the world arena.”

The Group of Twenty is a leading forum for discussing global economic and financial cooperation.

The G20 includes 20 largest national economies – Australia, Argentina, Brazil, UK, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Canada, China, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, the US, Turkey, France, South Korea, Republic of South Africa, Japan and the EU.

The abovementioned countries account for about 85 percent of the world GDP.
