Azerbaijani, Tajik commerce and industry chambers ink deal

The chambers of commerce and industry of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan will further continue cooperation, as the two sides signed a relevant cooperation agreement, Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported on July 6.

The document was signed following the meeting held between the heads of the two countries’ chambers of commerce and industry - Niyaz Alizade from Azerbaijan and Sharif Said from Tajikistan in Baku on July 4.

The meeting discussed the possibilities of establishing the Economic Council of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The sides focused on the prospects of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, and discussed the possibility of cooperating in oil and gas and energy sectors, construction industry, transport sector, mining and tourism fields.

Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, both post-Soviet republics established diplomatic relations on May 29, 1992.

The two countries' cooperation reached a new level in 2008, when an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation launched. It coordinates the realization of economic ties and develops new offers for future cooperation.

Currently, the legal base of Azerbaijan and Tajikistan relations consists of over 30 documents. This legal base paves the way for strengthening and developing future political, economic, humanitarian banking, as well as investment relations between them.

The trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan stood at $2.82 million in 2014, according to Azerbaijan’s State Customs Committee. Azerbaijan’s export to Tajikistan accounted for $2.64 million.
