By Sara Rajabova

The officials of Azerbaijan and United Arab Emirates have discussed prospects for the military cooperation.

Zakir Hasanov, Azerbaijani Defense Minister met Ibrahim Nasser Al Alawi, Commander of the United Arab Emirates Air Forces and Air Defense on January 22.

The sides also exchanged views on the regional military and political situation.

Noting that Armenia’s aggressive policy continues to this day, Hasanov stressed that Azerbaijani Armed Forces “are ready to liberate every inch of the motherland under the leadership of President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev”.

Salem Khalifa Mohammed Al-Ghafli, Ambassador of the UAE to Azerbaijan was also present at the meeting.

Armenia occupied over 20 percent of Azerbaijan's internationally recognized territory, including Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent regions, after laying territorial claims against its South Caucasus neighbor that had caused a lengthy war in the early 1990s.

The United Arab Emirates has recognized Azerbaijan’s independence on December 26, 1991 as one the first states. Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and UAE were established on September 01, 1992.

Azerbaijan and UAE are cooperating within the bounds of the United Nations Organization, Islamic Conference Organization and other influential regional and international organizations. UAE supports Azerbaijan’s fair position with regard to the Armenia – Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
