Azerbaijan and Montenegro enjoy significant potential to develop bilateral ties in various fields, including energy, infrastructure, banking, tourism and other sectors.

These remarks were made at a meeting of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and a Montenegrin delegation led by Prime Minister Milo Dukanovic on September 18.

After one-on-one talks the sides had talks an expanded format to discuss the bilateral relations.

The president noted that the bilateral friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Montenegro cover various fields and develop dynamically. "There are great opportunities to develop bilateral trade relations between the two countries," Aliyev said.

Dukanovic, for his part, noted the dynamic development he has observed in Azerbaijan and congratulated President Aliyev for this achievement.

As part of the visit to Baku, the Montenegrin delegation had a meeting with Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and discussed the current level and future prospects of bilateral relations between the two countries.

Rasizade said the political and economic relations between Azerbaijan and Montenegro are at high level and stressed the importance to develop ties in humanitarian and other fields.

At the end of the meeting Azerbaijani Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov and Montenegrin Economy Minister Vladimir Kavaric signed a cooperation agreement.

Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Montenegro started to develop faster recently.

Earlier in April 2014, Baku hosted a business meeting of Azerbaijan and Montenegro, which brought together businessmen from industry, agriculture, food industry, tourism and construction sectors to discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation between the countries.

Azerbaijan's state energy company SOCAR is going to build a modern resort and hotel complex in place of an abandoned navy base in the Bay of Kotor. For this purpose, Azerbaijan started the $500 million investment project in Montenegro in 2013, which is scheduled to be finished by 2016.
