Azerbaijani-German relations mulled in Baku

Azerbaijani and German legislators have discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ogtay Asadov met Deputy Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the Bundestag, MP Andreas Schockenhoff on September 16, AzerTag news agency reported.

During the meeting, Asadov said Azerbaijan attached great importance to developing relations with Germany.

He stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in terms of strengthening the bilateral cooperation.

Asadov said European integration was among key foreign policy priorities of Azerbaijan, noting that Baku is closely cooperating within the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and other international organizations. He added that continuous development of Azerbaijani-German relations within Euronest contributes to this.

The speaker also highlighted Azerbaijan`s achievements in the years of independence, particularly development of civil society and European integration.

Schockenhoff, for his part, said his visit was aimed at discussing Azerbaijan`s relations with regional countries, as well as security and socio-political situation in the region.

The sides exchanged views over Azerbaijan`s cooperation with the European Union and the Council of Europe.

Earlier, on the same day, President Ilham Aliyev received Schockenhoff. They discussed the issues related to the development of the relations between the two countries and Azerbaijan-EU cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Germany were established in February 1992. The economic relations between the two countries are developing successfully. To date, 67 documents have been signed between Azerbaijan and Germany in various fields.

Azerbaijan has sent about 200 entrepreneurs and young managers to various German cities in 2009-2014 to take training courses within a joint program to upgrade their skills in business management.
