Azerbaijan and Brazil to coop in sport

Azerbaijani Youth and Sports Minister Azad Rahimov is on a visit to Brazil.

Rahimov met with Brazilian Sports Minister Aldo Rebelo and discussed the current state of bilateral relations in the field of sports, stressing the great potential for cooperation in this field, the ministry reported

The sides discussed the possibility of participation of children and coaches from various groups and teams in workshops in Brazil in order to develop children's football as well as participation of Azerbaijani youth in the program for volunteer training for the World Championships to be held in Brazil in 2014.

The meeting resulted in signing of a memorandum on cooperation in sports between the relevant ministries of Azerbaijan and Brazil.

Rahimov then met with the President of the Paralympic Committee of Brazil Andrew Parsons. The sides discussed prospects of cooperation between the Paralympic Committees of the two countries.

in his interview to TV Brasil Channel Rahimov expressed his satisfaction with the development of relations between the two countries.

Noting the first European Olympic Games to be held in 2015 in Azerbaijan and the Summer Olympic Games to be held in 2016 in Brazil, Rahimov also stressed the importance of exchange of experience between the two countries in this field.

Rahimov met with the Deputy Foreign Minister for Sports, Ambassador Hadil da Rocha Vianna.

Vianna said the relations between the two countries have been developing rapidly in recent years. The sides exchanged in-depth views on the prospects of cooperation in the field of youth and sports.

Rahimov also met with President of the Committee for External Relations of the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of Brazil Nelsen Pellegrino and a member of the committee, MP Claudio Kadjado.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations as well as the possibilities of cooperation in the field of youth and sports. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Brazil Elnur Sultanov also attended the meeting.

One of the most significant event in the sport life of the country is the European Games, which will take place in Baku in June to July, 2015. The games will bring together around 5,000 athletes, and 1,000 official country delegates. Some 2,000 foreign media representatives will cover the event.

The construction of the 65,000-seat Olympic Stadium, and Gymnastics and Water Sports Complex is expected to be completed by 2015. The grand opening and closing ceremonies of the European Games will take place at the Olympic Stadium.
