Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter claims world taekwondo crown

Azerbaijan’s taekwondo fighter Milad Beigi Harchegani has won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Championship in the South Korea.

The 26-year-old athlete defeated in the finals Russian Anton Kotkov with a score of 21: 3, azertac reported.

Another Azerbaijani taekwondo fighter Mahammad Mammadov grabbed bronze in the 63kg class.

After winning the gold of the Baku 2015 the European Games and the European Championship in 2016, Harchegani won the title of world champion.

Milad Beigi Harchegani won a bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He also won a gold medal at the World Taekwondo Grand Prix Final in Baku.

Taekwondo is one of the most popular sports in Azerbaijan. The National Taekwondo Federation has trained many prominent athletes since its founding in 1992. Many of those athletes now enjoy international recognition.
