A seminar for judo referees and coaches under auspices of the International Judo Federation (IJF) has today started in Baku.
About 400 participants from 100 countries attend the event, according to Report.az. President of Azerbaijan Judo Federation (AJF) Rovnag Abdullayev and IJF president Marius Vizer held a meeting and answered questions of reporters before the seminar
Abdullayev said that he is proud of hosting such a big event on such a popular sport like judo. He extended his thanks to IJF for commissioning AIF to host such an event.
The AJF president also talked about development of judo in the country during the past years.
Marius Vizer, for his part, spoke about importance of the seminar and touched upon changes in rules.
Heads of all IJF committees, officials of continental federations, presidents of French, Mongolian, Turkish and other national federations attend the two day event.
The aim of the seminar is to bring to attention of attendants theoretical and practical aspects of changes in management and organization rules.
Judo is one of the most developed kinds of sport in Azerbaijan.Azerbaijan Judo Federation was established in 1972.
Next year the country's capital Baku will host the World Judo Championships 2018 among adults.
The adult judo team of Azerbaijan made considerable progress in 2016 as compared to previous years, according to the IJF.
The team led by the Autsrian coach Peter Seisenbacher won 51 awards in competitions of various levels. His clutch includes 14 gold, 10 silver and 27 bronze medals. The Federation's results showed that Azerbaijani judokas won 351 times out of 710 fights during the year.
The Azerbaijani judo fighter, silver medalist of Rio-2016 Summer Olympic Games Rustam Orujov was named the best in Azerbaijan's male team. Moreover, he is the strongest in the world in his weight class of 73kg, as well as among all weight classes.
The Azerbaijani judokas also showed good performance at the Rio-2016, bringing home two silver medals.
