Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order on August 31 conferring a special Olympic stipend of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Radik Isayev.

The athlete was honored with the stipend for his high achievement at the 31st Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Radik Isayev, Azerbaijan's taekwondo fighter (+80 kg), won Azerbaijan's only gold medal at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Shortly after the final game, President Aliyev made a phone call to the gold winner saying that Radik’s confident victory made all the people of Azerbaijan happy.

“The entire country needed this medal, and I think we've captured it with common effort,” Isayev told reporters in Baku airport upon arrival from Rio.

Isayev had previously proved to be the strongest taekwondo fighter in the world in his weight category as he claimed the title of the European Champion, World Champion and now won the Olympic Games.
