Almaty is applying for hosting the Winter Olympic Games and the Paralympic Games for the second time.

The ideological basis of the Almaty-2022 plan is the ‘Keeping it Real’ concept, according to the organizing committee.

International Olympic Committee’s Evaluation Commission led by Alexander Zhukov, President of the Russian Olympic Committee and Deputy Prime Minister will visit Almaty on February 9.

The Almaty-2022 project is the most efficient plan among those presented in the last 30 years. All sports facilities are located within a radius of 30 kilometers from the Olympic Village, and Almaty is a bright modern city, situated at the foot of the mountains with the highest point of about 5,000 meters, according to the message.

“Almost 60 percent of the required facilities have already been constructed and this can be a model for the future concepts for the games. Almost 80 percent of the infrastructure for the forthcoming games will be ready by 2017 to host the Winter Universiade in Almaty,” according to organizing committee.

Moreover, holding of the Winter Olympic Games in Almaty in 2022 will be an ecological project since there will be minimal demand for construction of Olympic facilities and transport infrastructure (for example, high-speed trains) and the environmental impact of the preparation process for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games will be negligible, the organizing committee said.

“At the same time, Kazakhstan's population is ethnically and culturally diverse. Representatives of over 100 nationalities and 40 confessions live in Almaty and the cultural program presents this unique conglomerate of national identity to the participants and spectators of the Winter Olympics,” said the committee.

Along with Almaty, China’s capital Beijing is also bidding to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The Candidate Cities deliver a number of presentations during the second phase of the bid process, and the final presentation is given on the election day to the International Olympic Committee members. This will take place on 31 July 2015 during the 128th IOC Session in Kuala Lumpur. Following the presentations and a report given by the Evaluation Commission chair, the IOC members vote and take the important decision of electing the host city. The newly elected host city then will sign the Host City Contract with the IOC.
