Iran, Afghanistan to discuss building pipeline

An Iranian delegation will visit Afghanistan in the near future to discuss building a pipeline to transfer oil products to Afghanistan, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company's managing director, Alireza Zeighami, said on Tuesday.

Zeighami, who is also deputy oil minister, went on to note that Iran also plans to export diesel oil to neighboring countries such as Armenia, Afghanistan and Iraq, the ISNA news agency reported.

The director of Khorasan Razavi Province's Oil Production and Distribution Company said in June that Iran is studying plans to build a 25 kilometre pipeline to transfer oil products to Afghanistan.

Ali Harandi told the Mehr news agency that the pipeline is planned to connect two oil product storage facilities, one in each country.

The Iranian facility has the capacity to store 2.5 million litres of oil products, he said.

Iran exported some 43 million litres of oil products, including kerosene, jet fuel, diesel oil and gasoline in the past calendar year which ended on March 19, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Production and Distribution Company Jalil Salari said in April.

Salari said that the country earned nearly $10 billion through exporting oil products.
