Azerbaijan’s state energy giant SOCAR plans to construct two new pumping stations at the off-shore Guneshli oil field.

The construction of the stations is aimed at keeping the stable seam pressure in wells functioning in the field.

Neftqaztikinti Trust acts as a general constructor of the work. The operations envisage provision of water supplies in stations, which will be constructed in platforms №6 and №9. Also, new sinking pumps, cooling and drainage systems, lifting mechanisms and other facilities will be installed on the platforms.

The capacity of the pump to be installed on the platform №6 will amount to 5,000 cubic meters per day, while the capacity of the second pump will stand at 9,500 cubic meters a day.

Being located some 120 kilometers east of Baku, the Guneshli field plays a significant role in the oil and gas industry of the country. The shallow-water section (up to 180 metres) of the field is being operated by SOCAR, while deep-water section is being developed within Azeri-Chirag – Guneshli block of fields jointly with the foreign partners.

To date the block of fields has produced 416.5 million tons of oil and 128.2 bcm of associated gas. Some 231.8 million tons of the total volume of the oil produced at the block accounted for profitable oil. The volume of average monthly production stands at 2.5 million tons of oil.

Shareholders of the ACG project are BP (35.78 percent), Chevron (11.27 percent), Inpex (10.96 percent), AzACG (11.65 percent), Statoil (8.55 percent), Exxon (8 percent), TPAO (6.75 percent), Itochu (4.3 percent) and ONGC (2.72 percent).

The existing PSA for ACG was signed in September 1994 for 30 years. A fully-termed agreement on further development of the block is expected to be signed by mid this year. The agreement will cover the development of the field until 2050 and will add significant resource development potential.

Last year, SOCAR produced some 7.52 million tons of oil on its off-shore and on-shore fields. Foreign companies are also involved in oil extraction in Azerbaijan. The total volume of produced oil in 2016 amounted to 41.03 million tons.
